The next scene shows Cortez and his Spanish fleet landing on the shores of Mexico, with Cortez stepping out of a palanquin, carried by his men. The arrival of the Spanish marked the beginning of the end for the Mayan civilization, as depicted in the following scene where Cortez is shown destroying a Mayan temple and idols. The Mayans, known for their advanced civilization and complex religious practices, were deeply disturbed by the Spanish intrusion.
