EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the extraordinary Henry Jenkins, a man who defied the boundaries of time. Born in 1501, according to his claims (although official records were not kept until 1538), Jenkins lived an astonishing life that spanned an incredible 169 years. His portrait, captured by R Page in 1821, portrays him as a wise and weathered figure. Dressed in traditional English attire of the era, with a tricorn hat adorning his head and a long beard gracing his face, Jenkins exudes wisdom and experience. The lines etched on his aged countenance tell tales of countless stories witnessed throughout history. This image is part of "Wonderful Characters: Comprising Memoirs and Anecdotes of the Most Remarkable Persons of Every Age and Nation" by Henry Wilson. Published by J. Robins & Co. , London in the early nineteenth century, this book immortalizes individuals like Jenkins who have left an indelible mark on society. Jenkins' longevity remains unparalleled even today, making him akin to Methuselah from biblical lore. This photograph serves as a testament to human resilience and curiosity about our own mortality. As we gaze upon this remarkable portrayal of Henry Jenkins, we are reminded that age is merely a number when it comes to leaving behind an enduring legacy.
